February Events

Saturday 1st February – Vectis Radio Station Open Day from 10am to 12 midday at the studio based at the Riverside Centre, Newport.  Come and see how it all works behind the scenes, meet some of the presenters, have a cuppa and some cake.  All we ask is a minimum £1 donation to help keep your community radio station running.

Saturday 1st February – Join us at Bembridge Youth and Community Centre for an ‘Evening at the Races’.   Help raise money for Bembridge Football Club and Bembridge Youth Football Club by coming along and placing a bet!  Races start at 8pm, the bar will be open from 6pm and families are welcome.

Saturday 1st February – Preloved Clothing Sale with 50% off everything at IW Foodbank, Love Lane, Cowes from 10am – 1pm. Whether you have had a New Year clear out (please do remember we love to receive clothing donations) and need a fresh wardrobe, or you are looking for something to warm you up on these cooler days, we have a wide selection for you to come and view. Selling clothes helps us raise necessary funds to support the work we do. Please come and grab a cuppa and a slice of cake in our cafe whilst refreshing your wardrobe.

Sunday 2nd February – Island Cohousing Introductory Talk and Q&A at  1pm in the Corner Room at Fort Victoria, Yarmouth.  Come and learn about cohousing.  Everyone has their own private dwelling but there are shared resources such as a workshop, gardens and a common house where meals can be prepared and shared.   For more information go to  It will be followed by a walk in the woods and a chance to chat informally with members of the group.

Monday 3rd February - Isle of Wight Family History Society open meeting, everyone welcome.  The Demolition of Newport - a film presentation by Brian Greening.   Hunnyhill Room, Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport.  Doors open 7 pm talk starts 7.30 lasts about 45 minutes.  Admission members of the Isle of Wight FHS - £1; non-members - £2.  For information go to

Monday 3rd February – Over 60’s Tea & Chat at Freshwater Library.   Drop in to meet new friends, learn about local activities, and enjoy a biscuit and a cuppa.  This is our first meeting and then every first and third Monday of the month, 10am to 12pm

Thursday 6th February – Time To Talk Day at The Pop Up Peoples Gallery, 33 High Street, Newport between 10.30 - 3.30pm.  Have a look at The Anxious & Awesome Exhibition, a project created to encourage people to speak up about mental health. The Working Towards Wellbeing Team and The Mental Health Service User Involvement Team will be available during the morning with information and to answer any questions. There will be refreshments, activities and we hope to get lots of conversations started about mental health.  Everyone welcome ~ Just pop in and say Hello 

Thursday 6th February – Quiz Night at The Eight Bells, Carisbrooke to raise funds for a community defibrillator.   Starts 8pm, 4 people per team and £2.50 per person.    A raffle will also be held on the Night.   Call 825501 to book your place.

Saturday 8th February – Charity Quiz Night at Premier Lounge, Smallbrook Stadium, Ryde in aid of Cancer Research.  Teams of up to 6 people (£2 per person). Raffle, food, bar and games.  Doors open 7pm of 8pm start.  Call 811180 to book your place.

Sunday 9th February – Tie the Knot Wedding Fayre at Quay Arts, Newport from 11am – 3pm. Join us for this free wedding fayre to help you plan and celebrate your special day. Come and meet a range of local suppliers and businesses who are here to help you ‘tie the knot’ alongside a range of musicians performing in the café.
Sunday 16th February – Sandman Snowman.  Join us on the Science Beach at the seafront opposite Browns Golf Course, Culver Parade, Sandown PO36 8QA at 10.30am.  Free event!  Come snow or shine, and make your own Snowman… out of sand!  Carrots and coal provided and hot chocolate on tap! Bring a bucket and spade and wrap up warm. 

Sunday 16th February - Plastic Free Shanklin.  Join us on our beach clean.   Meet at the South East Beach Café from 10am.  We provide you with equipment and instructions, so that we can clean the beach safely.  We will also arrange for everything we find to be disposed of responsibly.

Friday 21st – Saturday 22nd February - IW Story Festival at the Riverside Centre, Newport from 10.30am – 4pm.  There will be a wide range of stories and storytellers for children and families to enjoy. There will be appearances from some big-hitters from the world of children’s books. Hear them tell their terrific tales through wicked words and perfect pictures – and expect lots of laughs on the way! And children and their families can be storytellers too: using old typewriters, making junk models and through other writing and craft activities.  Local authors and performers will be out in force – and not all of the attractions will be human! Come and commune with butterflies and bats! We hope to see you there; it’s going to be a lot of fun!

Saturday 22nd February – The National Trust are holding a coffee morning at Bembridge Village Hall from 10am – 12.30pm.   Enjoy a hot drink and cake as you find out  how they are getting on with fundraising for Bembridge Windmill sweeps.   There will be items made from the old sweeps for sale and opportunities to find out about volunteering too.

Sunday 23rd February – The Newchurch Male Voice Choir will be at the Quay Arts Centre, Newport Harbour presenting a Concert on behalf of the Island Rotary Club to raise funds for the Rotary projects on the Island. Entry Free. Retiring Collection. Starts at 3pm. All welcome.

Tuesday 25th February – Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races in the Square at Yarmouth from 10.30am.  Races for all ages and loads of prizes! The Shrove Tuesday trophy will be presented to the first competitor to finish the final race.  Fancy dress optional
Saturday 29th February - Leap Day Sale at Cowes Methodist Church, Birmingham Road from 10.30am – 12.30.  Organised by ‘Whitehill’ and raising funds for N.S.P.C.C.& Cowes Methodist Church.

Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 10am – 3pm – West Wight Men In Sheds, Totland Recreation Ground. Come along and Learn Things, Make Things & Drink Tea. Why not come along on a Monday morning between 10 -12 for our weekly coffee morning and find out what we are all about.

Every Monday - The Games Lounge for 50+ year olds at the West Wight Sports & Community Centre. Drop in anytime between 1pm and 4pm. Entrance fee £2. Take part for free with table tennis, pool, board games etc. and socialise over hot drink refills.

Fourth Wednesday of the month -  Alzheimer Cafe at The Broadway Centre, 1 Broadway, Sandown, PO36 9GG from 2pm — 4pm. An informal meeting place, for people living with dementia, their families, friends, carers and those with an interest in dementia.  Everyone welcome.
Every Thursday: Over 50s table tennis takes place at West Wight Sports and Community Centre, 1.30 - 2.30 p.m. £2.00

Last Thursday of the month - The Newport Alzheimer Cafe  meet from 6pm – 8.30pm at the Church Hall of St John’s Church, on the corner of Terrace Road and Drake Road (opposite the former Nodehill School).  An Alzheimer Café is a meeting place giving information educational advice and guidance to people with dementia, their families, carers, professionals and to people with an interest in dementia.   Newcomers very welcome, no need to book just come along.   For further information and transport call 01983 220200
First Friday of every month – Ryde Alzheimer Cafe meet at All Saints Church, Queens Road, Ryde between 11.30 am- 2 pm. The venue is the church hall attached to the magnificent All Saints Church (the one with the big spire).  An informal, supportive and friendly atmosphere for people whose lives have been affected by dementia.  Newcomers Very Welcome!

Every Friday from 10am – 12pm – Weekly Drop in at Downside Community Centre, Furrlongs, Newport.    Help and information with finding local activities, debt, education, employment, forms and applications, finance, housing, jobs, health and getting involved in the community.   Everybody is welcome.  This is a free, confidential and friendly session.

Every Friday – Freshwater Market, Memorial Hall, Avenue Road from 8.30am til 12 noon.   Great range of stalls with something for everyone.

First Saturday of the month – Table Top Sale at Sandown Conservative Club, 92 Station Avenue, Sandown from 10.3 am – 2pm.
First Saturday of every month at Bembridge Friendship Circle meet at the Village Hall from 10am – 12pm.  Book Sale, bric-a-brac, raffle, tea/coffee/hot chocolate and cakes. Come along and support this event and all proceeds to towards the community bus.
