Saturday 5th October – Vectis Radio Station Open Day from 10am to 12 midday at the studio based at the Riverside Centre, Newport.  Come and see how it all works behind the scenes, meet some of the presenters, have a cuppa and some cake.  All we ask is a minimum £1 donation to help keep your community radio station running.

Saturday 5th October – Amble/Walk from Seaview to Ryde, or Ryde to Seaview.  A delightful flat walk along the water's edge.  All ages can take part and entrants can take as long as they like to complete the walk which will start at 10am.  Starting outside The Old Fort Pub in Seaview or by the Waterworks/Canoe Lake in Ryde - you can walk in just one direction 2 miles - or the more energetic can walk there and back!  Cafes en route will welcome those taking part.  Forming part of the Age UK IW - Age Friendly Week. Thursday 10th October – Keep Warm and Well – Winter is coming free event at the Riverside Centre, Newport from 11am – 3pm hosted by The Footprint Trust Charity. We are here to help you and your family, to prevent you making choices between heating and eating. Thursday 10th – Sunday 13th October – Isle of Wight Literary Festival at Northwood House, Cowes.  Most of the activities take place in and around Northwood House, a Grade II listed manor house set in over 20 acres of Park in the heart of Cowes. Now in its eighth year, the Literary Festival is a non-profit making charitable trust.  Over time the Festival has gone from strength to strength and has had a wide range of speakers from Max Hastings to Mary Berry, Michael Morpurgo to Deborah Moggach, Andrew Marr to Val McDermid.  Go to, to learn more about the 2019 exciting line up as it’s announced.

Friday 11th – Saturday 12th October – Teddy Bear Sleepover at Freshwater Library.    What mischief would your teddy bear get up to if they had a sleepover.  Drop off your teddy bear from 1.30-4.30pm on Friday and leave them in Freshwater Library overnight for some friendly fun! Pick them up between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Saturday, along with a photo book of their adventures!  Space is limited so please make sure to book your space at the Help Desk at Freshwater Library, or call 752377

Saturday 12th October – Silent Auction at East Cowes Methodist Church.  Articles for sale can be dropped off between 6pm and 8pm on the 11th and 10am and 11am on the morning of the sale.    The church will be open for viewing from 2pm and the auction will take place from 3-4pm.   Light refreshments will be available. 

Saturday 12th – Sunday 13th October – Annual Classic Beer, Buses and Walking Weekend from 8.30am – 6.30pm.  All travel is free. Event programme with full details of routes and participating pubs, with vouchers.  This island wide event attracts up to 100 Classic Buses to the island, running a free network of bus services connecting up to 100 hostelries serving Real Ales.   A selection of walks between the pubs has also been prepared by the organisers.   Operating from The Quay at Newport, the Bus Museum at Ryde, with interchanges at Shanklin, Ventnor and Yarmouth. Friday 25th October – Tuesday 29th October - Harp on Wight Festival will take place in Ryde. The event will offer both concerts and teaching workshops in Scottish, Irish, Breton, classical jazz music with performers due to attend from Austria and Italy as well as Scotland and - for the first time in the festival - Ireland. A wonderful exhibition of harps made by international and national manufacturers will take place in Ryde Methodist Church in Garfield Road and is free to enter in daytime hours throughout the festival, except at times when concerts are taking place.  The exhibition also includes a wide range of harp accessories and sheet music. Saturday 26th October – The Phoenix Choir at Holy Trinity Churchy Bembridge at 7.30pm.  Admisstion free with a retiring collection.   In aid of the restoration of the Church windows stonework.

Monday 28th October - Bring your toy and see them parachute from the balcony at Cowes Methodist Church from 10am – 12pm.   £3 for 1, £5 for 2.  Raising funds for Action for Children.

Thursday 31st October - Halloween Party at Ryde Town Club at 2pm. Carnival may be over but still plenty of chances to get dressed up.

Saturday 2nd November - Masonic Hall Open Day at The Chine Lodge No 1884.  Have you ever wondered what goes on in our building? Are you curious about who and what we are?   Then come and meet us at The Masonic Hall, Eastcliff Road, Shanklin.    Free refreshments & guided tours from 11am – 4pm with a Charity Cheque Presentation at 4pm.   Local residents and charities are all welcome.
